An Intro to my Classic Lolita style!

To start off my blog, I'd like to talk about 3 recent(ish) classic looks I wore that I feel really represent my personal style. I wear classic lolita more than any other substyle, though it took me a few years in the fashion to get to this point. I started off wearing almost exclusively Angelic Pretty—a sweet lolita brand— and over the years have discovered it isn't really me. Now, 5 years into the fashion, I can say I am a proud classic lolita, and have built up what I think is a pretty satisfying collection of pieces. So without further ado, here's a breakdown of some recent classic looks.

1. The Floral Jacket Look (photo above)

Jacket, Shoes: Victorian Maiden
OP: Mary Magdalene
Socks: Innocent World
Bag: Vivienne Westwood

Worn March 2021. This may be one of my favourite coords I've ever put together. Dusty rose is my favourite colour in classic lolita. The jacket is the total embodiment of "grandma-kei" or "wallpaper fashion"—I think there's something undeniably kitschy about it, but I tried to style it in an elegant way. At the last minute, I remembered a random brooch I got in a Taobao order once, and pinned it to my collar. Turns out that was exactly what this coord needed, and I think the flowers at the neck really tie the look together. The VW bag isn't exactly "classic", but I found it in a hidden secondhand shop in Osaka so it has nice memories associated with it.

2. Ivory Lady Dimitrescu

OP: Mary Magdalene
Bolero, Socks, Blouse: Innocent World
Shoes: Fint
Hat: Axes Femme

Worn May 2021. The name of this coord is a joke, obviously, but I did feel sort of like the big Resident Evil vampire lady. Probably just because I was playing the game when I wore this. Again, Mary Magdalene is taking centre stage with this absolutely gorgeous OP, Madeleine Chiffon. It's one of my long time dream dresses, and a great example of construction. A lot of older lolita pieces put cut and construction over prints (prints as we know them today didn't always exist), and that's something I really appreciate in classic. Not much else to say here, except that I was very happy my bolero matched the shade of the OP perfectly! Also, I was nervous to wear such a big hat on my short hair but I think I pulled it off okay.

3. Emma Woodhouse Goes to the Bank

Skirt: Victorian Maiden
Blouse, Bag: Innocent World
Shoes: Iris Corolla
Hat/Bonnet: BellaDeer

Worn May 2021. Coord name because I uh, went to the bank in it. Real creative here. Anyway, I think some people may say this isn't really a "lolita coord", and I'm not 100% sure it is either. Namely, the length and silhouette of the skirt is much more historical than lolita. I think this coord is a good example of a look made entirely of lolita brand pieces that turns out to be something else. That aside, this skirt is a recent purchase of mine. I was nervous to get it, because I thought it would look weird on my short body (I'm 5"3). Turns out it suits me fine, and I felt extremely elegant in this look. I have more mint classic pieces than any other colour!

Thanks for reading my first blog post. I'm still figuring out what kinds of things I'd like to write about, so if you have any suggestions, feel free to comment them!

  1. I really love how these three coords rely on floral motifs for accessories, but they all feel varied and unique! I'd love to see a more in depth post on some of your favorite classic accessories.
